Magento 2.3 introduced a new feature called Salable Quantity. It relates to inventory reservations which Magento manages internally. Some key things to know about Salable Quantity:
- The Salable Quantity is not API accessible. Accumula cannot control it directly.
- You can't manage it independently within Magento either. Its updated when certain events occur such as when an order is placed, cancelled, shipped, invoiced, or refunded via a credit memo.
- Magento's team actually recommends disabling parts of the Inventory Management system when integrating Magento with inventory from other solutions (what Accumula does). This removes the Salable Quantity feature.
What does Salable Quantity Do
Salable Quantity flips what are normally oversell risks upside down. During periods of high volume instead of a risk you might sell too much, you'll see Magento has made less inventory available than you actually have. The inconsistency will eventually resolve itself, but when that happens primarily depends on how quickly you fulfill orders.
Can Salable Quantity Cause Problems
Yes. While more often than not you'll run into cases where less inventory is available, and that might be bad, if you've migrated data or upgraded Magento from an older version you might also run into cases where more inventory is available than you actually have on hand. Magento's team is aware of this issue and makes a tool available to fix it:
Magento Recommends Disabling Inventory Management
Accumula connects outside inventory and order management systems to Magento 2. Per Magento's documentation they're aware of how this can conflict with Magento's Salable Quantity and inventory management functionality. You can read about that, and how to disable inventory management, here:
While Accumula's team cannot disable your inventory management system for you, please contact our support team if you have any questions.
